Advances in interventional cardiology have been accompanied by necessary evolutions in vascular access tools and techniques. These include advances in vascular closure devices, transradial access, and other smaller vessels such as transulnar and distal radial access sites. Structural heart and aortic procedures have demanded advances in large-bore arterial access and closure, venous closure, and alternative access techniques such as transaxillary, transcaval, and direct aortic access. This special issue will include a number of developments in this topic area to facilitate the adoption of these newer techniques that will enable safe and more efficient vascular access.
